What is the Peterborough Doula Network?
Peterborough Doula Network is a non-profit collective of doula's working in the Peterborough area. Our doula's all know each other, work together to provide back up support for each other and many have even trained together from the beginning of their doula journey.
We are not an agency and do not receive any financial benefits to parents using our network. We meet every other month and keep in close contact with each other in-between via phone, e-mail contact & via our own closed yahoo group. We always try to ensure that we are represented at local events, training days and meetings such as those of Peterborough Maternity Services Liason Committee.
We also aim to provide support to women interested in training to become a doula and for those who have trained but do not feel quite in the right place to begin supporting families yet. Though only doulas who are members of Doula UK are able to be listed on the network website all doulas are welcome at our bi-monthly meetings and can be invited to join our closed yahoo group.

What are the benefits of the network?
We felt it was important that doula's working in the same local areas knew each other well. This benefits the parents we are supporting as we know of each others areas of expertise and knowledge, who else may suit a particular client should we be booked or be unavailable and also when offering back up support whilst on call. We are reassured by referring to doulas who we know have trained with providers who all follow the same ethics and standard of training approved by Doula UK.
Not only does it benefit the parents by providing doulas who are better supported in their community but we also felt it was less confusing and conflicting. Instead of multiple doulas all advertising and promoting themselves in different places our doulas all work together to share resources, knowledge & opportunities.
We do not provide any preferences or judgements about individual doulas that are part of our network and all of our doula's respect clients' confidentiality - we will not share your details with each other or any third parties unless we have requested your permission to do so. In this instance we prefer to pass the details on to you for you to contact direct, unless you have requested otherwise.
How do doula's join the network?
If you are a doula or are interested in finding out more about training as a doula and you live in the Peterborough area please contact the site administrator including your contact details, and if you have already trained please also include details such as which trainer you have trained with and also whether you are a current Doula UK member. For those who are members of Doula UK & that would like to contribute towards the long term goals of the network we may also request to see a copy of your certificates and insurance as well as details of any previous references/testimonials should you not be recently trained before we list your details on this website.
Although there is no membership fee all costs are agreed and shared between network members. This includes website and advertising costs. It is the responsibilty of each doula to provide up to date contact details for visitors to the site should they be listed on here.
